And He Took Bread

Christ Institutes the Sacrament

Text from the King James Version of the Bible

Music and Additional Lyrics by Vaughn W North

Matthew 26:26-28

Only hours before Christ would suffer the Atonement, He introduced the holy sacrament at the Last Supper.  He instructed the Apostles to eat and drink in remembrance of His broken body and His blood.  In the music, we hear ascending chord sequences symbolizing lifting our souls up to Christ through partaking of the sacrament.

Text:

And He took bread, and blessed it, and brake and gave to His disciples, saying:

“Take, eat, this is my body.”

He took the cup, and gave thanks, saying:

“Drink, for this is my blood of the new testament,

Which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

This do in remembrance of me.

For I will not eat anymore thereof until it be fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.

For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine

Until I drink it with you in the Kingdom of God, the kingdom of my Father.”
