The Baptism Of Christ

Matthew 3:13-17

Text from the King James Version of the Bible

Music and Additional Lyrics by Vaughn W North

Jesus comes to John to be baptized and commence His ministry.  The cello obbligato in background symbolizes the presence of the Father.

Little is known of the life of Christ leading up to His ministry.

Luke states: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”  Luke 2:52

Text:

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee,

To Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

But John forbad Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized of Thee,

And comest Thou to me?”

Jesus answered and said to him,

“Suffer it to be so now,

For thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness.”

And Jesus, when He was baptized went up straightway out of the water.

And lo, the heavens were opened unto Him,

And He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove,

Descending and lighting upon Him.

And lo, a voice from heaven saying:

“This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
